Dr Maleckas is one of the most famous and experienced surgeons in North Europe, having performed more than 3,500 bariatric operations. He was trained for bariatric surgery in 2001, in Sahlgrenska University hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden, where he still works today. In 2007 Dr Maleckas established an International Bariatric Training centre in the Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, back in Kaunas.
